Blasted Backyard

Our backyard is muddy. We are going to work on getting it to grow grass soon - but it is so muddy at the moment. Here is a pic...

(See my sticks by the fence outlining where I want my garden to be?)

We have been in contact with different landscaping professionals about putting in a patio of pavers, but have yet to find a price we like - still waiting on one guy to get back with us. He came out for measurements last week and we haven't heard from him since. Hmm?

One guy I had scheduled to come out for a free estimate never showed up and when I called him he never called back.

Are most landscapers fairly flaky like this? Not returning calls, not showing up for appointments, and taking over a week to get back with you on a quote? Arg!

Here are the kind of pavers I would love to have for our patio...

Today is icky and cold so I can't work much outside and the husband is working all today, the Pampered Chef Party I had to go to was yesterday so today there is nada - so forgive the multiple posts.

Yes, most contractors are like this. It stinks. If he didn't call you back, it is probably to your advantage. Try to get some word of mouth referrals, maybe your extension agent?

He got back in touch with the very next day after I posed that - ha! And the guy who stood me up called the day after begging my forgiveness. Maybe they read my blog - probably not but ya know. :) An extension agent? Not even sure what that is - sorry! Fill me in!

Where is your garden located? It is not on your profile and I have looked, maybe overlooked. Here we have a county agent funded by tax dollars that helps with plant and community issues. She is great and knows alot of contractors and such. If you have one, you need to get to know them. Also, the Better Business Bureau or word of mouth is good too. Contractors are a bear to deal with. I have had a few situations. Seems like they don't even want to work! Maybe they read your blog. Print up some business cards and give out to folks you meet, they'll catch on.

We are on the southside of Indianapolis, Indiana - in the Greenwood - Whiteland - Franklin Area. Not sure if we have a county agent...

I love that area! My husband is an Army recruiter in Evansville. We have a little house there but do have to travel to Indianapolis for functions occasionally. The last time we stayed in the Sheraton. So nice.

You have an extension agent. All counties in the U.S. have them. They usually run the Master Gardener program. Ours has a mail list and lets us know when plant sales are and other state gardening functions. Check it out at Extension Office. Your zone is similar to mine, but it is surprising the difference between Evansville (2 hours north of me) and here sometimes. Are you a member of Freecycle? It is the best! I get lots of gardening stuff. You should check it out at Freecycle.org for a groun in Indie. I am betting it is big. I am a member in Clarksville and Evansville since we kind of live between both places. I have met some nice people-gardener usually! Anyhow, today is a garden day...gotta go tend to it as I am SO behind!
