Mod Podge Addiction

Pretty sure this is only the beginning folks. It is probably a good thing that I will soon be too tired with caring for a newborn to craft - because I am already halfway through the jumbo sized jar of mod podge I just bought. That stuff is addicting!

I got it with the idea that I would just mod podge on some of the left over fabric strips from the Heather Bailey bunting and quilt I made for the baby's room onto some clothes pins to make fun fridge clips. Especially since my mind has gone to mush and I've been told that it will only get worse from here...it helps to clip things to the fridge. Invites to events we should go to, our grocery list, bills, etc. I've even gotten in the habit of sitting down every Sunday afternoon and writing out a little "notes about this week" page full of different things going on both to remind myself and to keep my hubby in the loop.

Well, what started with fridge clips soon spread into dresser drawer liners for the nursery. We bought the dresser on craigslist and yes, I cleaned out the drawers, but a nice drawer liner seemed just the thing to make it seem brand new, clean, fresh and ready for baby clothes, etc. So, in addition to the gigantic jar of mod podge - I also bought 18 sheets of 12 x 12 pink polka dotted scrap book paper.

I was really hoping to find a nice roll of wrapping paper in the same sort of theme - but alas no. And plus, Hobby Lobby had a 50% sale on the scrapbook paper so for under 50 cents a sheet I couldn't go wrong.

Craft Room Makeover

Making our spare bedroom into a nursery and our office into an office/spare bedroom has had us shifting around a few things in our home here recently. I am officially happy with how the office and guest bedroom turned out. I thought at first it would be too cramped - but having the bedroom suite and the library and desk together makes the room look so much more put together and cozy!

What we were lacking though was a real craft area for my sewing, knitting, crocheting, cutting, painting, etc needs. Somewhere besides under the bed and in closets where I could stash my growing fabric collection, thread, ribbon, batting, yarn, needles, etc - in plain sight so I could see what I have and find what I need easily but done more tastifully than my rubbermaid bins.

So our white shelf that we scored for free last year ended up coming out of the office and into the landing/loft area and now happily houses all sorts of crafty tidbits, another free standing shelf holds even more, and I thought I would not need these two plastic bin/shelves that came in from the garage and used to reside in our closets when we lived in the apartment - but my crafty stash needed further containing so here they stay. And what's a craft area without a table? Not a craft area! So here steps in my blue card table...blah.

But what really ties it all together I think - is my Tablevogue cover. Have you heard of these yet? If you haven't - you've gotta check them out! They take your ordinary tables from drab to fab. And I am not talking about just any old table cloth here. Because I've tried that - and nothing fits a card table well - you always have that edge that is too long - and one way too short -arg! Tablevogue, being the geniuses that they are, have created custom fitted - and fancily box-pleated - covers to fit over your standard card table and utility table. Fabulous!

I'll be using for my upcoming baby shower - and any other future parties AND it will get used everyday in my craft area! No need to fold up my unsightly card table any more - I can put it to use everyday AND make it look cute!

P.S. I'll post more here soon from the other rooms - nursery and guest bedroom - but most importantly - the nursery!! It is coming together so fast now - can't wait till it's finished and there's a beautiful little baby sleeping in there! :)

Crafting Cupcakes for Christmas

Yes, I realize this post is a little late, but wanted to share with you one of the things I made for Christmas! Plus, some of these little cuties hadn't quite gotten handed out yet even days after Christmas! :)

These were super easy to make thanks to the tutorial over at Bake It Pretty! - will definitely be making them again next year! One bummer though, I wasn't able to find the sparkly kind of flaky buffalo snow - just the plain kind. Though I really didn't start looking until about 3 days before Christmas - but still! So hopefully next year's will be sparkly!

For anyone looking to find the supplies for these: I found a better price on Styrofoam balls at Walmart AFTER I had already bought them from Hobby Lobby, the "cherries" were found at Hobby Lobby in their floral section as branches of berries, and the buffalo snow was found at JoAnn Fabric (had no luck whatsoever at finding any flaky snow at Michael's, Hobby Lobby or Walmart).

I dabble in knitting and enjoy it, I really do. But one thing that is a little annoying about knitting are the all the needles you need. There are different sizes, then short ones and long ones and then round ones if you want to knit things like sweaters and blankets. And round needles are a tad expensive especially when you need a whole set of sizes. So, I've stuck pretty much to small projects like scarfs and things.

But I have been itching to make an afghan. So, I've convinced myself to learn to crochet. If I can figure out knitting, I can figure crocheting out too. Heck I even have two crochet needles already from my knitting stash.

Weekend Warrior Post Edition: Indieana Handicraft Exchange

Between two closes and a mid I managed to drag my tired, slightly grouchy husband out to the Harrison Center (ahh...memories from Sculpture class) and check out the Indieana Handicraft Exchange! I love, love LOVE the logo and the whole play on words with Indieana. Marvelous!
