Dogsitting for Duke

Our good friends added a new family member a few weeks ago - a great dog named Duke! They picked him up from a local humane society and he is just such a doll! So well behaved, mild mannered and potty trained!

We had the pleasure of dogsitting Duke while his parents are away for the weekend. He gets along great with our dog Showbiz - in fact they look a lot alike! They had quite the romping session in our backyard!

Ours has the pink heart collar and Duke has the blue harness. Don't they look like they're having a great time? :) They were so worn out afterwards!

Bored? Break out the Board Games!

My husband and I have quite the collection of board games - ranging from Scrabble, Scattergories, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Cranium, Apples to Apples and Battle of the Sexes. All very entertaining games if you've ever had the chance to play them! Though after a bit it seems that you cab find yourself in bit of a board game rut.

For example - for a good few months there I could NOT get enough game time with Scrabble. We bought a travel version and took it everywhere - playing it in the car, at the pool and even at the winery with friends! I even bought this little book to record every move, etc. But alas, I am now in a rut with the game. Every time my hubby suggests a round I just about groan.

And then there's Apples to Apples - lord have mercy. That game was on fire with us for a good year and half and now - yup - if you mention it you might just get the same groan from me. Doesn't help that I recently played the game from nearly 7PM to 3:30 AM straight just a few weekends ago - oy! It is a fun game to get to know people - to break the ice and get talking and laughing together. But oy.

Last night, having dinner guests over, we broke out Battle of the Sexes - a game we used to play a lot but hadn't in a while. Ah, the humor and the fun when I break out my tucked away tidbits of knowledge that my husband has no clue that I know! :) Yup, I knocked my hubby speechless by effortlessly guessing the correct Rocky movie to whatever question was asked - something about some specific star that was in which rocky movie - WITHOUT EVER HAVING SEEING A SINGLE ONE. Yup, I am THAT good.

I rattled off what the main body of a ship was called - a hull - duh! And correctly identified what cuban item a "Havannah" was - a cigar. And me and my fabulous teammate successfully prattled off what color is associated with the positive end of a car batter - red!

And, oh, the great-fun as we watched them struggle over question over question when it was their turn.

"What item in the house has a deep feed and a top loading bobbin?"

Their guess? Washing machine! ahahahahahahahaha!

"How is the best way to store egg whites?"

A jar?

Heck no, boys, you freeze em!

"What phrase completes this advertising slogan: "I use L'oreal...."

Their answer: everyday

The correct answer: because I'm worth it!

Hehe! Oh the list goes on and on. It is funny because the boys always prematurely pronounce victory - even before the game box is open! They are all hooping and hollering about trouncing us in strategy and then end up cursing the game and insisting it is unfairly made as they lose miserably.

My theory - us women pick up more things and retain them better than our counterparts- even if the info is about boring old cars or sports or whatever. Our spouses would KNOW the answers to the girly questions about panty hose, cooking and make-up if they listened closely and tucked the info away - but alas, it goes in one ear and out the other. :) Though, maybe, just maybe a few are insanely hard - that we don't even know them and vice versa with the boy questions.

Any good games out there that you, my lovely readers, love to play? Tell me about them! I think after the last round we played last night, we may be in the market for a new one! ;)

When Friends Get Married

There's nothing better than sharing special life moments with your friends! Matt and I ventured up to Michigan last weekend to watch our great friends Ben & Megan get married. And we were given the high honor of being Host & Hostess - pretty awesome!!

As Host and Hostess we were entrusted with the HUGE responsibility of prepping the reception hall and making sure things went smoothly with the caterer, facility, florist and cake lady. We jazzed up the dance floor with gorgeous hanging paper lanterns, set the tables with the numbers, made sure the florist put the right centerpieces on the right table, set up the candles, name cards and wedding favors. It was all a piece of cake though with Megan's amazing attention to detail!

The details were just stunning! Peonies, roses, hydrangeas and orchid centerpieces, hanging lanterns, black, pink and green accents, twin boys and girls for the flower girls and ring bearers, gorgeous brides maids, handsome groomsmen, pink strawberry wedding cake with coconut frosting, monogrammed frosted sugar cookie guest favors - everything just gorgeous!

(The happy newly weds - Ben & Megan! Aren't they the cutest couple!)

I cannot say enough to explain how amazing it was to be a part of their special day - it really made us feel like an important part of it all. We are so blessed to have such thoughtful friends who would entrust with the all the little details of their special day. *happy sigh*

Here's a snapshot of us with our Michigan couple friends! So wish they didn't live so far away! :( We always have such a blast together! Love and miss you all!

Michigan Weekend of Fun!

Been a little quiet on the blogging front this past weekend. The husband and I managed to sneak away for a Couples Weekend with a few friends at a cottage right off of Lake Michigan. Had a blast! A little rainy and chilly for my taste but had a marvelous time none-the-less!

Took a little detour on our 6-hour road trip to a winery we saw signs for on the highway (Fenn Valley Winery). Ended up finding an amazing Port that we couldn't live without! Anything with hints of nutmeg and chocolate has my a-okay!

Also met the official winery kitty - Pinot Meow!

Found out that Michigan doesn't have "fancy things" like nacho cheese dip for your breadsticks at Pizza Hut. :) Our waitress gave us that line, "We don't have fancy things like that...," when we asked for it. Chuckle.

After navigating some pretty hilly and muddy DIRT roads, we finally came to the cottage in all it's cozy, comfy glory!

Made dinner for all our friends that first night...had Flank Steak with Lime Marinade, Grilled Corn with Chili Powder and Lime, and Carmelized Grilled Fruit - all Martha Stewart recipes, of course!

Ventured out the second day to a few more wineries and happened upon the great Fox Barn full of apple, asparagus, wine and cherry goodness. Ever heard of Cherry BBQ Sauce?! It is freakin' delicious!

Also dined in at the scrumptious La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant in downtown Hart Michigan and took the scenic tour around Silver Lake where my husband proposed to me nearly 5 years ago!

The rain let up long enough to enjoy some great evening campfires complete with smores! During one lag in the rainy weather the men took quick jaunt out to the beach to test the waters. Luckily I "forgot" my bathing suit so I was unable to see what frigid Lake Michigan water feels like in 50ish degree weather...darn. :)

Stretched out our legs a little before our long journey back home by starting off the third day in Pentwater. Perused the marvelous The Bitchen Kitchen and came home with all sorts of goodies!

Hopefully this weekend becomes a yearly tradition!

And Baby Makes Three

Some great friends of ours were blessed this weekend with the birth of their first baby boy! They went in Saturday, December 8, 2007 at 8AM to be induced and a whooping 8.4lb 21in baby boy entered the world at 8:16AM Sunday morning, December 9th via C-section. And they gave him the most adorable name - Landen Hunt. Boy, is he handsome too! This picture doesn't do him justice.
